Unit 50 - dance show faultline prep, final rehearsal

During this lesson we decided to walk through the routine to cement the blocking in our minds, from there, each pair practiced their fight duets.

Unfortunately I have sustained an injury in my foot, and so unable to dance, but this gave me a bigger idea of what the performance looks like overall, and I was able to evaluate it more successfully.

The most effective ideas are those that show contrast, have impact, and are synchronised within the group. For example the 'left right left jump' step and the beginning isn't so effective as people aren't all pointing their toes, or extending their arms and legs in parallel- a way to fix this is but going through it slowly using the mirror as a guide to see where the differences is in the movement.
Key moments of impact were Jess and Megan' fight piece, they use tempo very effectively, doing a slow movement to a suddenly aggressive one. For example when they lock hands and spin Megan away violently. The use of cannon at the start of the piece is also effective as it united the individual groups who come on stage separately, Lois, The four that walk on, and the group that form the triangle.

The two gang's section is also very effective- they both start with the same knees bent intimidating shoulder roll movement, but then each group is characterised by what the do next- Megan's group advancing towards Jennahs group, whereas Jennahs group use sharp movements to scare the opposition away. These different trains portrayed brings the story back into the movement.
The solos are definitely something that stand out as needing work, there are few moves that aren't in everyone's piece, and with only 8 counts they tend to overlap. Something that is lacking Is the energy, this can be given through facial expressions, sharp movements and extensions of each movement. Some people are more focused than others during this section, meaning that the less prepared solos stand out more, and the movement isn't as well rehearsed. Each time they repeated the solos they improved through feedback from Kat, mentioning the lack of energy and random spacing.

What was mentioned by year 13 and 14 for improvement:
They said characterisation, and energy as two main things.
This means that we have got the movement, but there is a lack of facial expressions and characterisation which could be shown.

If I was in the show, I could show my characterisation in various ways. For example the duo that Charlotte and I had practiced, I made myself quite a sly, or secretive character who uses sudden movements, going from slow smooth movements (for example the lunge back with steady slow arms) to fast movements, where my character suddenly turns and goes to kick charlotte, when she grabs my leg and throws me back down to the floor. This sly, secretive trait is also show in the second half of the duet where I look behind me to find Charlotte, and then left and right and we are both hiding from each other by looking the opposite way. This is effective because we are completely in sync, and mirroring each other. Our duo shows contrast in tempo and sharpness of
